How do I know which kit to order?
Safe Step Stairs™ Standard Kits are designed to be used within specific height ranges
and widths. The Standard Kit is designed to fit in between joists/trusses that are 24” on center.
Standard Safe Step Stairs™ total width is 21” with 18” wide steps that are 5.5” deep using the
height dimensions below. If your stair needs do not fit within these Standard Measurements,
then your stairs will be Non-Standard. Contact us to discuss your needs so we can engineer a
set of stairs that meet your specific needs. There is a $200 Non-Standard fee in addition to the
Standard price for the kit for us to do the engineering and order special gas shocks to meet your
needs.
Safe Step Stair™ Standard Kits are sized in 1’ ranges – use the following
measurements to determine the proper kit for your home:
Ceiling height is measured from the floor to the ceiling. Do not include the joists
or flooring above:
Wooden Kit number ceiling height range
W8 – for 8’ ceiling 7’5” to 8’6”
W9 – for 9’ ceiling 8’7” to 9’6”
W10 – for 10’ ceiling 9’7” to 10’6”
NOTE: These sizes are for our standard kits. If your needs do not fit the
width within the range of 24” on center joists (22 to 22.5” between the joists) or
the above ceiling heights, then your stair needs are Non-Standard – contact us to
get the proper hardware for your stairs. If you attempt to apply a Standard Kit to
a Non-Standard opening the stairs will likely not function properly.
NOTE: All of our wooden kits can be built in Non-Standard sizes. If your
needs require a longer, shorter, wider, or narrower stair, any combination of these,
or deeper steps, please contact us, and we will work with you to get you the
correct hardware to build a custom set of stairs to fit your needs.
How large is the rough opening?
The rough opening will be 1 to 1.5” longer than the stair stringers. Below are the stringer
and rough opening sizes: – NOTE: Stringer is the piece that runs down the entire length of the
stairs on both sides and is the overall length of the stairs.
Kit number Stringer length Rough Opening
W8 10’5” 10’6”
W9 11’5” 11’6”
W10 12’5” 12’6”
How soon will my kit ship?

Non-Standard Kits:
Non-Standard kits typically will ship in 2 to 8 business days once we receive the

What is the Customer Information Request?
When you place an order, we will send you a Customer Information Request. This asks
you to provide information about your project so we can assemble the correct
components to fit your application. Once we receive the CIR back from you your kit will
be assembled and built, typically shipping within 2 to 5 business days.

We are currently seeking installers all across the country and world. If you have interest please contact us.
What is the purchase procedure?
You can purchase directly from our website at safestepstairs.com with a credit card or
you can contact us at safestepstairs@gmail.com or call 217 433 1394 and we will
discuss other options for ordering.
If you place an order on line, the cart will show sales tax in the beginning of the process, this will be removed further along in the order process, unless you live in Florida.
As you proceed through the order process, if you live outside the lower 48 states the
program will pause the order and you will not be able to complete the order. The
software will send us a notice that you are trying to place an order shipped outside the
lower 48 and we will then calculate the shipping and get that to you in a day or two so
you can complete the order.
Non-Standard kits:
If you are ordering a non-standard stair kit, your order will be charged a $200 fee for
engineering and custom gas shocks. This will appear on your order as a charge above
the cost of the kit or any additional shipping. Typically, we will respond to non-standard
orders withing 48 from the order coming in and by then have the engineering completed
and be able to get your custom shocks ordered. Shipping time for the custom shocks
can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 8 weeks depending upon if they have to make a
custom shock for your application or not. Shocks will be shipped directly to you from the
manufacturer to reduce the lead time to get your custom shocks.
Customer support for building and installation:
We provide customer support to answer all your questions prior to and after a sale. All
questions are handled directly by the inventor of Safe Step Stairs™ and owner of Tri Line
Services, LLC.
We do everything in our power to answer the phone between the hours of 7 am to 7pm eastern
standard time. Outside these hours please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon
as I can.
We recognize that when you are in the middle of building or installation and things are not going
as anticipated, you need to speak to someone to support you as soon as possible. If you call
and you get our answering machine, please leave a message, then text us asking for me to call
you back. If it is urgent then call, and call right back two or three times. When I see this
happen, I understand it is urgent and I will stop what I am doing if possible and answer the call.
Sometimes I am away in a different time zone or different country. I carry my phone with me
and look at email, text and return calls daily when away. Please be patient.
If you are having a problem with the build or installation, I ask you to slow down and read the
manual and watch the videos. WE find that most calls of this nature are due to someone being
impatient and now carefully reading the manual or watching the videos. The vast majority of our
customers build and install the stairs with no support. This is due to the painstaking efforts we
have put into providing all the details you may need to build or install the stairs in the manual
provided. That is why the manual is so long and detailed, so you have the information and
answers to be able to successfully build and install a set of Safe Step Stairs™ at your fingertips.
The best advice I can give you is to slow down, read the manual and watch the videos, all of
them, even the ones on metal stairs (which we no longer sell) but the information contained in
the metal stairs video pertains to the wooden stairs as well.
